Defensive tackle for the Washington Redskins Albert Haynesworth has said that he will not be attending the mini-camp this weekend, said someone from within the league on Wednesday. The camp is voluntary and Haynesworth is hoping that he will be traded, even though he has only been with the Washington Redskins for one season. He will only be attending offseason activities that are mandatory. The team will be trying to move the player, before the draft next week, because is not happy with his given position as nose tackle in the Redskins 3-4 sceme.
Haynesworth received a $21 million dollar bonus at the beginning of the month but is still balking at his position and coach for the Redskins Mike Shanahan wants to reconfigure the locker room and get rid of any potential issues before next week. Haynesworth played for the Tennessee Titans formerly and they are interested in him, according to sources within the league, as are the Detroit Lions who are being coached by Jim Schwartz, the former defensive coordinator for the Tennesee Titans.
Because Hayworth's salary is easier to manage now, after the Redskins looked for a third round pick while considering Haynesworth and then taking the options when any other team would have had to pay him that bonus. Now, the Washington Redskins are hoping that they can get a second round pick for Haynesworth. The Tennessee Titans don't have a second round pick in the 2010 draft and the Lion's second round pick is extremely high. That makes things a little more complex, but hopefully a deal will still be made.
