Amid a lot of speculation after Michael Vick reinstatement to the NFL, the former All-Star seems to have finally found a place to call home. While a number of teams were thought to be in the running for Vick due to a need at the QB position, the Philadelphia Eagles have jumped out of nowhere into the fray and signed the QB. The move is a surprise for everyone in the NFL, not only because the Eagles were an unexpected team, but also because the contract is not that cheap.
The Eagles have reportedly signed Vick to a two year deal. This will include a total of $1.6 million for the first season with a team option for $5.2 million for the second year. Not a bad gamble for the Eagles. If Vick works out they can keep him for a decent salary, if he doesn’t work out they can cut their losses and move on.
The biggest surprise though has to be the fact that Philadelphia is a veteran team that is lead by Pro Bowl QB Donovan McNabb. McNabb is the consensus starter and will be given every opportunity to play. However, once fans put the surprise aside they might realize that this combination of Vick and McNabb running around in the backfield could cause big problems for opposing defences.
Vick still has not been fully instated and will be allowed to attend training camp and play in the preseason, but he may be held out of the regular season until week 6 depending on how commissioner Roger Goodell decides. A date that all NFL fans will want to circle on the map would definitely be week 13. This is when the Eagles and Vick will head to Atlanta to play what should be a hostile crowd unwilling to forgive.
