Jed York announced recently that 2010 would definitely see the return of Coach Mike Singletary and Scot McCloughan, the General Manager of the Team. York is the President of the 49ers team. The announcement was made on Monday, before the big Monday Night Football game against the Arizona Cardinals. He said that there was no question that both men would still be with the team come 2010. Singletary has been with the team since 2008 and McCloughan has been with the team since January of the same year.
York said that Coach Singletary's passion was one of the main reasons for keeping him around, having been taken from Interim coach and procuring a four year contract with the team. His success with the team came after Mike Nolan was fired back in October of 2008. On Monday, before the game with the Cardinals the 49ers were sitting at 5-7 this season, a very positive place for the playoffs. The Cardinals were the current NFC champs and the game ended with a trouncing by the niners, 29-9, which brings San Francisco's record to 6-7.
This is McCloughan's second year as General Manager for the San Francisco 49ers. Before that he was the VP of Player Personnel for three years. According to York, it is McCloughan who is responsible for getting Vernon Davis in 2006 as well as Michael Crabtree who was the 10th overall pick this year. Crabtree was signed by McCloughan in October. Davis was the sixth overall back in 2006. The 49ers get two first round picks in the 2010 draft and more exceptional talent is expected to enter the team then.
