One of the Busiest Off-Seasons in NFL History

Torry HoltThis past off season has been one of the busiest in recent memory for the NFL. It appears that things are slowing down but considering the fact that the off season is technically supposed to be boring, this year has been quite a surprise already. Let’s take a look back at some of the major moves so far.

The action started with Albert Haynesworth signing the largest contract in the history of the league at $100 million for seven years. Then Kurt Warner made a big splash after his exciting year and got a 2 year, $23 million dollar contract from Arizona. Brian Dawkins then tearfully left the Philadelphia Eagles by way of a $9 million dollar deal to play two years in Denver.

Another few surprises came when some all stars were cut by their teams including Torry Holt, Fred Taylor, Orlando Pace and Derrick Brooks. It turned out well for Taylor and Pace who both landed with contending teams with the New England Patriots and Chicago Bears respectively.

Trades happened this year as well as Jay Cutler was moved to the Chicago Bears and Jason Peters was sent from Buffalo to Philadelphia. However the Bills made up for the loss by adding big name talent such as Terrell Owens which has excited the fan base quite a lot. The Kansas City Chiefs also sent Tony Gonzalez to the Atlanta Falcons in a surprise move.

This is not even to mention the off the field news including Plaxico Burress’ court and legal issues, the possible return of Brett Favre to the Minnesota Vikings and the possible return of former all star Michael Vick to professional football

The fact is that this year’s NFL off season as been one of the most thrilling yet. It the 2009-2010 season turns out to be anything like the off season, all football fans will be in for a treat.
