Rush Limbaugh Dropped From Group Bidding On Rams

Jim IrsayRush Limbaugh, the radio talk show host was part of a group that was hoping to buy the St Louis Rams, but was dropped at the last minute. Limbaugh was only supposed to be a limited partner, but since the bid that the group was making had become a problem with him in the group, they decided to exclude him. St. Louis Blues chairman Dave Checketts released a statement that said only that Limbaugh's participation in the bid had become a “complication.” and that they would continue to attempt to buy the team without his help.

The problem would have been that the league's thirty two owners would have had to vote with a ¾ majority on the new acquisition. Jim Irsay, who owns the Indianapolis Colts said that his prediction was the the bid would be opposed by many of the owners if Limbaugh was a part of it. Even some players had mentioned that they would be displeased with Limbaugh as the owner. One strong voice was DeMaurice Smith, who is head of the NFL Player's Association, told players that if they had a problem with Limbaugh as an owner to speak up.

Limbaugh said that the decision wasn't about the team, the NFL or himself, and that it was about part of the country trying to squash conservatism and to keep prominent conservatives out. His final words mentioned that this decision was about the future of the country and what sort of United States we will be in the future. Without Limbaugh the group will have to find another partner to make up for his part in the financial obligations. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said about the Limbaugh incident that the NFL wasn't about divisive comments.
