After it all seemingly, finally came to an end after last season, it appears that the Brett Favre saga is still in full swing. This week Brett Favre is expected to meet with Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress in Mississippi. The two men will meet three times within two days to discuss the possibility of Favre suited up one more time for the Vikings this upcoming season.
Favre most recently played for the New York Jets but decided to once gain retire, leaving the Jets to make a big splash at the NFL draft and trade up for USC QB Mark Sanchez. Favre also forced the hand of the Green Bay Packers the year before last when he once again came out of retirement and demanded to be traded.
The Vikings themselves have been interested in Favre for years but were never able to work out a trade or agreement. Last year was not one of Favre's best but he did lead the Jets to an 8-3 start only to stumble through the rest of the season. Late in the season Favre actually suffered a torn bicep but elected not to have surgery based on his upcoming retirement. So there is no word on how this injury would be dealt with if he decided to return to the league once again.
Overall Brett Favre has played in the NFL for 18 years and in Green Bay for 16. He is a seven-time All Pro and has represented the QB position for 10 seasons in the pro bowl. He currently is the all time record holder in a few categories including wins, passing yards, interceptions, touchdowns and the iron man record for most consecutive games started. Throughout his career he completed over 60 percent of his passes for a total of 65,127 yards, 464 TD's and 310 interceptions. His lone super bowl victory came in 1996 with the Packers and the team also lost the super bowl once to Denver in 1997.
Many fans and NFL supporters are in a bit of an outrage over this recent news. There was a lot of controversy swirling around Favre coming out of retirement last year and doing it again this year would be quite a shock. A lot of people feel that once you retire it should be a final decision. To keep having emotional retirement press conferences over and over again, only to come back is not the way a future hall of famer like Brett Favre should act. We all want to see our role models and football heroes walk off into the sunset playing their best. A lot of Favre fans are worried that he will come back and be unable to perform his best. There is a risk that this retirement saga will become the main thing that Favre is known for, rather than his hall of fame career and ability.
