The Houston Texans are Poised to be a Top Team in 2009

Gary KubiakThere has never been too much excitement or hopes for the Houston Texans to make the NFL playoffs since 2002. The team has been competitive, has had some exciting young stars and has had some memorable moments yet they have not been able to put a full season of exciting play together. It seems that it is all about to change in 2009 as the Texans have put together one of the most explosive offenses in the league. Texan fans are excited and the players are excited about the prospects for the upcoming season. All NFL fans should be excited as well because the Texans are going to be playing some very exciting football and may just be able to make a push deep into the playoffs. Whether you are a fan of the Houston team or not, it is going to be exciting to watch them play week in and week out.

With Gary Kubiak leading the way as head coach the Texans are going to implement some dynamic offensive packages and some unique special plays in order to take advantage of the speed on the roster and their high-octane attack. Last year the team was ranked third in the league when it comes to offense and they have improved even more so far for the upcoming season. The Texans take advantage of some unique elements of the West Coast Offense to bring explosive play to every game, the team just has to hope their defense can keep up.

While a lot of the credit for the offenses success goes to the coaching and the play calling, a lot of credit also has to be given to the players that take the field every week. Andre Johnson leads the way and is a perennial all star. He emerged as one of the top receivers in the entire year last year on his way to 115 catches as he compiled 1.575 yards. Kevin Walter acts as the second receiver on the team and put up some really good numbers as well last year as a complimentary receiver. He benefits a lot from playing beside Johnson and should be able to put up even better numbers this year.

Owen Daniels has also emerged as a very talented tight end and should take a lot of the pressure of off Johnson and QB Matt Schaub. Schaub has quiety emerged as a very talented QB and it has a lot to do with all of the weapons he has at his disposal. Last year he threw for over 3,000 yards for the first time in his career and completed more than 60 percent of his passes. However a lot of the credit has to go to the running game as well.

Steve Slaton emerged as a very promising young back last year and was a top six back in the league as he compiled 1,282 yards on the season. Combining Slaton's ability with the explosiveness of the receivers and the accurate arm of Schaub the Texans should be able to make a very promising push to the playoffs and become one of the elite teams in the league this year. Keep your eye on the Texans this year and get ready for some exciting and explosive football that is about to come your way.
