The Miami Dolphins Reemergence as a Powerhouse in the NFL.

Chad HenneEver since the end of the Dan Marino era, the Miami Dolphins have really lacked a solid, starting quarterback to lead the team. Even just a year ago the team had very, very little depth at the position and no one who was ready to step up and lead the team. Between John Beck, Josh McCown and Chad Henne there was not much excitement around the team and little more than bodies to stand at the position. They team was desperate to find a legitimate starter, and that they did. Now just one year later the Dolphins have great depth at the position and are extremely excited about the prospects for the upcoming season. A number of teams would like to be in the situation that the Dolphins are in heading into the upcoming NFL season.

After acquiring Chad Pennington, thanks to the trade of Brett Favre to the New York Jets, the team turned a corner and Pennington turned them from league worst into a playoff team. Coming into this year Pennington is still slated as the starter but is entering the last year of his contract. Chad Henne was groomed last year and if Pennington starts off slow, many feel that Henne is ready to step in and take over. On top of Henne, the Dolphins also drafted Pat White who is an excellent runner and could be part of the teams "Wildcat" offense.

Many teams are envious of this mish mash that the Dolphins have at the QB position. They have a veteran in Pennington who really knows how to play the position, you have Henne who is learning from Pennington and has the skill set to play well, and then you have White who brings a completely new dynamic to the offense.

A lot of people in the Dolphins organization and the fans find it quite hard to believe how the position has changed over the past year. Just 12 months ago they were holding open tryouts trying to find a quarterback who could make a difference and now they have three. Not only are the skill sets of these three players different but the team also benefits from having three separate personalities at the position as well. Pennington is focused and completely selfless. Henne is extremely patient and has leadership qualities and White is just willing to sit back, listen and learn from anyone who is willing to teach him. The three players support each other and there is a sense of calm in the clubhouse.

That will be the key for the Dolphins success. Pennington needs to be focused and not be concerned about losing his starting job while the other two need to patient, ready to learn and just seize the opportunity when it presents itself. The Dolphins are starting over and turning a new leaf, and they have the arms and the brain power at the QB position to do it. It should be an exciting year in Miami, without a doubt.
