There is always a lot of argument about which NFL team has the best defense in the league. There are different styles, different players and different ways to build a defense but one thing is always the same, pass rushers are the key to success. While many teams want their pass rush to come from a dominant defensive line, the line always needs a little extra help. This is why there are teams that have built themselves around one excellent pass rusher from the outside. An elite rusher can change the entire look of a time and really put pressure on the QB in a number of situations. With that said, here is a quick look at some of the league’s best pass rushers from the outside.
1- Jared Allen, Minnesota Vikings
Allen has been a force in his division for some time now and has compiled 30 sacks in the past two seasons. While there are other rushers in the league that seem to have more god given talent, Allen is known for his relentlessness and work ethic. In fact he has compiled more sacks since 2004 than any other player in the league.
2- DeMarcus Ware, Dallas Cowboys
Ware has now been a pro bowler three times in a row and is known around the league as a force to be reckoned with. He has an explosive first step and a whole plethora of pass rush moves that cannot be topped. In four years he has compiled more than 53 sacks and last year put up a career best number with 20. The scary part about Ware is that he continues to improve and should be even better this year.
3- Julius Peppers, Carolina Panthers
Peppers is the Panthers franchise player and has been an incredible pass rusher through his seven seasons in the NFL. Peppers has compiled more than ten sacks on the season five times and last year set a new career high with 14.5. He has been to the pro bowl four times and will continue to dominate the league for at least a few more years to come.
